A lifesaver for students when trying to remember email and logins. This quick tip saves a lot of headache. #wpscpln #vicpln

This quick tip could save you a bit of time in class with your students.

We all know how hard it is for some students to remember their email. Some times they have a hard time typing the email in. I know the emails addresses are long and difficult to remember at our school. Especially for Year 7s.

Using the keyboard shortcuts feature in iOS, students can set up a shortcut with their email address or anything else they need to type in frequently.

Here’s how.

Touch on ‘Settings’ and then ‘General’Screen Shot 2014-02-21 at 10.55.12 AM

Scroll down to ‘Shortcuts’.

Your list of keyboard shortcuts will appear. Touch on the ‘+’ in the top right hand corner of your screen.

The ‘Phrase’ is what you would like the full phrase to be. This can be an email address, a sentence, a name, a BSB or account number for your bank account. Anything you type in frequetly and can set up a shortcut for. Place your full phrase in the ‘Phrase’ section.

Your shortcut can be whatever you want it to be. I usually use just two letters or the first letter of each word in a sentence. Just remember not to  make it a common word like ‘to’ or ‘or’. This can cause  a headache when you’re trying to type those words and the shortcut kicks in and replaces it with your phrase. Touch ‘Save’.

Now when you are completing anything on your iPad and you type the short cut your full phrase will appear and you can touch space bar or return to replace the shortcut with your full phrase. Students love this because they don’t have to spend time looking up emails and typing them in slowly.

This will work on any app on your iPad.
